My academic career was spent in scientific laboratories exploring basic questions in virology and deciphering molecular mechanisms invisible to the naked eye. Upon retiring, I had the opportunity to pursue a life-long interest in photography and see the surrounding world.
In San Francisco, where we reside, architecture is most interesting to me while in the Sierras, nature and the seasons were most compelling. When driving to and from the mountains, I could experience speed and the transformation of our surroundings and document how human intervention - highways, bridges, oil tanks, gas stations, electrical towers and signs - distort the natural terrain. In travels to distant cities, my view of architecture, people and speed are synthesized into a unique vision.
