On annual excursions to Europe, we travel to Germany to visit friends from early days in science, now retired in Marburg, a small town on the Lahn river. The changing seasons reflect the course of our lives. We go for long walks in the country past old castles, talk of days past, our children’s lives, and politics surrounded by carefully tended flowers over coffee and good wine.
